From Bare Paddock To Koalas: A Story Of Legacy
January 01, 1970•1 min read
At the 2026 Toowoomba Show, I was reminded of something simple…
when you slow down and take the time to talk to people, you uncover the most incredible stories.
I met an amazing woman from out near Goombungee.
We started chatting about where she lives — and what began as a simple conversation quickly turned into something much more meaningful.
When she first moved to her property, it was a dairy farm.
No trees.
Just open land.
So she started planting.
Not for recognition.
Not for a grand plan.
Just because it felt like the right thing to do.
Tree by tree.
Over the years, those trees grew.
Decades passed.
Today, more than 30 years later, those same trees are now home to koalas.
She can stand at her clothesline and see a koala looking back at her.
Let that sink in for a moment.
What started as a practical decision — “we need some trees here” — has become something far greater.
A living, breathing legacy.
Her children and grandchildren are now part of it too.
Planting trees.
Spotting koalas.
Sharing in something that was never rushed, never forced — just consistently nurtured over time.
It’s a powerful reminder that we don’t always know the impact of the small things we choose to do today.
In business.
In life.
In community.
The post you write.
The conversation you have.
The connection you make.
You might think it’s small.
But give it time…
and it might just become something extraordinary.
Why this matters
We’re all building something — whether we realise it or not.
The question is…
are we building something that grows beyond us?
If this story resonated with you, take a moment today to start something small.
You never know where it might lead.
