AI, Value, Human Connection & the Future of Business

Why technology will never replace authentic relationships

A few weeks ago, sitting around a table at a local business breakfast, we found ourselves deep in conversation about AI.

As expected, there were mixed opinions around the room.

Some people were excited.

Some were cautious.

Some were overwhelmed.

Some were completely fascinated.

And honestly, all of those reactions make sense.

AI is moving incredibly fast, and whether we like it or not, it is changing the business landscape in real time.

During the conversation, I brought up what can sometimes feel like a hot topic:

I believe there are people charging extraordinary amounts for things that, in some cases, may no longer reflect the true value being delivered.

Now before anyone misunderstands me — let me be very clear.

I absolutely value experience.

I value knowledge.

I value wisdom.

I value expertise.

I value people who have spent years learning their craft.

But what’s changing rapidly is the way work gets done.

Tasks that once took hours can now take minutes.

Research can happen faster.

Ideas can be developed faster.

Systems can be streamlined faster.

Content can be created faster.

And because of that, I think businesses — and clients — are beginning to look differently at value.

AI Is a Tool — Not the Entire Business

This is the important part.

AI itself is not the magic.

The real value lies in:

  • knowing how to use it

  • understanding strategy

  • asking the right questions

  • refining the outcome

  • understanding people

  • and creating something meaningful from it

Because someone still has to conduct the orchestra.

That’s the analogy I keep coming back to.

AI can assist.

AI can support.

AI can accelerate.

But human beings still bring:

  • emotional intelligence

  • connection

  • intuition

  • creativity

  • life experience

  • leadership

  • empathy

  • and understanding

Without that, AI quickly becomes generic noise.

From Bag Phones to AI — We’ve Been Here Before

Before KC Strategic Media Services, I spent many years working in telecommunications with Telstra.

Back then, businesses were trying to understand:

  • mobile phones

  • internet systems

  • IP technology

  • cloud communication

  • digital transformation

And honestly, many people resisted those changes too.

But if we rewind even further, it becomes even more interesting.

Think about the evolution we’ve already lived through:

  • bag phones in cars

  • the iconic Nokia 5110

  • dial-up internet

  • fax machines

  • pagers

  • printed directories

  • and the shift from fax to email

At one point, all of those technologies felt new, confusing or even unnecessary to some people.

There were businesses that said:

  • “Why would anyone need a mobile phone?”

  • “Fax is perfectly fine.”

  • “Email will never replace face-to-face communication.”

  • “People won’t trust online systems.”

And yet here we are.

Now we carry more technology in our pockets than entire offices once had.

The businesses that adapted survived.

The businesses that embraced change often grew faster.

And honestly? I believe AI is another one of those transformational moments in history.

Not because it replaces humans — but because it changes how humans work.

Human Connection Is Becoming More Valuable — Not Less

This is one of the reasons I’m involved in so many networking groups, business communities and local organisations.

Because in my opinion, human connection is not disappearing.

It’s becoming even more important.

People still want:

  • trust

  • relationships

  • conversation

  • authenticity

  • encouragement

  • understanding

  • and genuine support

People still buy from people.

And in a world becoming increasingly automated, the businesses that genuinely connect with others will stand out even more.

Technology should enhance relationships — not replace them.

Charging More Doesn’t Always Mean Delivering More

And this is probably the part I feel most strongly about.

I think there are businesses and consultants charging significantly more while, in some cases, delivering less genuine value than ever before.

Meanwhile, there are incredible people quietly working behind the scenes:

  • giving more

  • caring more

  • supporting more

  • strategising more

  • connecting more

  • and genuinely helping businesses grow

At KC Strategic Media Services, I know I probably give far more than what I charge.

And honestly, that comes down to heart.

I genuinely care about people.

I care about community.

I care about small businesses succeeding.

I don’t want clients to feel like a transaction.

I want them to feel supported, guided, encouraged and understood.

Yes, I use AI every day.

Yes, I embrace technology.

Yes, I love what these tools can do.

But the real value I bring is not simply access to technology.

It’s:

  • strategy

  • creativity

  • perspective

  • business experience

  • communication

  • problem solving

  • encouragement

  • relationships

  • and human understanding

That combination matters.

The Future Belongs to Businesses That Blend Both

I don’t believe the future is “AI versus humans.”

I believe the future belongs to businesses that know how to combine:

  • technology

  • efficiency

  • strategy

  • creativity

  • and authentic human connection

Because no matter how advanced technology becomes, people still want to feel:

  • heard

  • valued

  • supported

  • and connected

The businesses that will thrive won’t necessarily be the ones using the most AI.

They’ll be the ones that know how to combine:

  • technology

  • efficiency

  • experience

  • strategy

  • and genuine human connection

Because even with all the technology in the world, people still want to deal with real people.

That part hasn’t changed at all.

And perhaps that’s the real opportunity sitting in front of all of us right now.

Not replacing humanity with technology.

But using technology to free us up to become even more human in the way we do business.

And personally?

I think that’s one of the most exciting business opportunities we’ve ever seen.
